Commodification and healthcare

Thursday, July 29 at 7 p.m.

Location: In Person at 900 S. Shelby Street

Join us for our first in-person Socialist Night School program in over a year at our Smoketown Collective office!

Healthcare is a universal human need. But today’s arcane web of healthcare providers, private insurers, and government programs has reduced the servicing of fundamental human need to a profit center for the billionaire class. We will be discussing the for-profit healthcare system in the context of Marx’s idea of commodity fetishism and Lukacs’ theory of reification, examining how even our basic human needs are reduced to exchange-value under Capitalism.
