Our kids deserve a better world:
Let’s build one with a green new deal for public schools.
Let’s build one with a green new deal for public schools.
On July 15, 2021, Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) unveiled the Green New Deal for Public Schools Act , introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives alongside 32 cosponsors. Along with The Democratic Socialists of America’s Green New Deal Campaign Committee and teacher unions nationwide, we’re taking a “whole child” approach to building better public schools.
The Green New Deal for Public Schools Act provides $1.4 trillion over ten years for America’s K-12 public schools. By investing in our communities, closing the education gap, and building the clean, climate resilient schools our kids deserve, the Green New Deal for Public Schools:
Creates Jobs
This bill will create 1.3 million well-paying jobs a year for locally hired trade workers to retrofit schools across the nation.
Expands School Services
This bill will hire more teachers to shrink class sizes and will hire needed support staff for each school like nurses, social workers, and psychologists.
Cleans Our Communities
The bill will transform dilapidated school buildings into clean, carbon-free, and climate resistant centers of learning. This bill will remove toxic molds and asbestos from neglected classrooms and will eliminate 78 million tons of CO2 annually.
