The Challenge
Healthcare should be a human right for everyone, but medical debt is the biggest cause of bankruptcy in the U.S. In Jefferson County, 22% of residents have medical debt in collections. This problem doesn’t exist in countries with universal healthcare. U.S. residents, though, have $220 billion in debt. While we continue fighting for single-payer, universal healthcare in the U.S., we must take immediate action to help those burdened by medical debt.
