The Challenge
Healthcare should be a human right for everyone, but medical debt is the biggest cause of bankruptcy in the U.S. In Jefferson County, 22% of residents have medical debt in collections. This problem doesn’t exist in countries with universal healthcare. U.S. residents, though, have $220 billion in debt. While we continue fighting for single-payer, universal healthcare in the U.S., we must take immediate action to help those burdened by medical debt.
Our Solution
Through our Debt Alleviation and Relief Effort (D.A.R.E.) campaign. It’s time to DARE to erase medical debt. Working in collaboration with Undue Medical Debt, LDSA plans to purchase and cancel about $2 million of Kentuckians’ medical debt, which would only take ~$11,000! For every dollar we raise, we can cancel $180 of debt.
Campaign Results
The final goal of $11,000 was reached through 3 benefit shows, social media campaigns, and word-of-mouth.
